Course Car Identification

Below are the course cars that you will see during the running of the Rally SA and their role in the event.

Advance

This vehicle will deliver clocks and radios. It will also carry spares of other items used in the stage set-up. It enters the stage 90 minutes prior to the first competitor.

"000" Triple Zero

This vehicle will enter the Special Stage after road closure. Its purpose is to check the course and ensure that it is being prepared for competition. The first competitor is approximately one hour away.

"00" Double Zero

This vehicle will enter the Special Stage approximately half an hour before the first car. Its purpose is to check the course and ensure that it is ready for competition. Course Car 00 carries the CAMS Checker.

"S1" Spectator One

The role of S1 is to check on the location of spectators on special stages, especially those spectators in potentially dangerous locations in the event of a competing vehicle leaving the road. S1 travels through the stage 20 minutes before the first competitor.

"0" ZERO

Its purpose is to make a final check of the course.It will also be treated as a competitor and will be travelling at near competition speed. The first competitor is 5 minutes away.

Competition Vehicles

Competition cars numbered 1 to 75 will pass at 1 minute and 2 minute (top 20) intervals.

Chief Safety Officer

The Chief Safety Officer may enter the stage at any time to respond to an accident or other problem on the Special Stage. The Chief Medical Officer is also in this vehicle.

"FIV" First Intervention Vehicle

A First Intervention Vehicle is located at the start of each Special Stage containing two medical personnel and two motor sport Fire Marshals and maybe required to enter the Special Stage in the event of an accident.

Sweep

The purpose of the Sweep vehicle is to follow the last competitor and act as their "buddy". The Sweep vehicle will travel through the Special Stage at near competitive speed with its siren sounding and its green lights flashing. After Sweep has passed, the road is officially open to the public.

Recovery

RECOVERY travels through the stage after the stage has re-opened and is responsible to move any vehicles blocking the course, or in a dangerous position. They also clean up any debris on the course and wherever possible they will also deal with any oil spills and will make temporary repairs to damaged fencing.
