Rules of State of Origin Rally Challenge - Media Releases

ARCom endorsed the following conditions for the ‘State of Origin Rally Challenge’:

1. To be known as the 'State of Origin Rally Challenge'

2. The 2008 State of Origin Rally Challenge will be an additional competition forming part of the 2008 Rally of SA, ARC round.

3. Invitations will be issued to each State Rally Panel to nominate a team to represent their State/Territory.

4. At least 3 States must cause a team to be entered for the State of Origin Rally Challenge to be constituted.

5. Each team must comprise at least 3 crews, up to a maximum of 5 crews. Each state may field more than one team.

6. A 2-wheel drive vehicle must be represented in each team.

7. To be eligible, each crew must be comprised of a driver and co-driver who competed in at least 3 State Rally Championship (or highest level series) rounds in 2007/8 in the State which they have been nominated to represent.

8. If a team comprises more than 3 crews, the results of the best finishing 2-wheel drive crew in that team and, after that, the results of the best two of the other crews in the team will be counted.

9. The State of Origin crews will be awarded points 40, 34, 30, 26, 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 for places first to twentieth for their finishing position against other State of Origin crews in each heat. The winning “State of Origin” team will be the team with the highest combined points at the conclusion of the event.

10. A crew may be cross-entered in the event. That is, they may be entered in the ARC field as well as in the State of Origin Challenge or, alternatively, in the State of Origin Challenge and the South Australian Rally Championship field.

11. The entry fee for each State of Origin crew will be:

  • $795.00 (with sponsors advertising displayed) for local crews provided they are registered for the South Australian Rally Championship;
  • $895.00 (with sponsors advertising displayed) for local crews who are not South Australian Rally Championship registered;
  • $695.00 (with sponsors advertising displayed) for interstate crews;
  • $1,195.00 for any crew not displaying sponsors advertising.

Crews who wish to enter the ARC section of the event will pay the ARC entry fee. No other fees will apply for entering the State of Origin Challenge”

12. Regional scrutineering will permitted for all crews other than local crews.

13. The winning State team will be awarded a cash prize of $3,000.00.This will be paid subject to clause 4 being satisfied.

14. The event will present trophies to the members of the winning team and a special feature will appear on rally.com.au about the State of Origin Rally Challenge.

"Interstate crews who are not entering the ARC section of the event may compete under normal state championship provisions for fire extinguishers."
