Officials Newsletter # 4

30 August 2006

Firstly, a big, big thank you to all officials - by all measures, the rally was again exceptionally well received, and this is due in no small way to your efforts - so thank you all very much - and a thank you certificate is attached that recognises those efforts

Secondly, when/if the event is on again next year, we will be looking to all of you again. What would be really great is if everyone could retain current roles where possible to provide continuity - and all of the stage commanders have already indicated that they will go on again, which is terrific.

Again, I believe that we have achieved a high degree of success, and that we have together run an event that is widely acknowledged as the best in the championship -

And:- it is pleasing to note that 18 out of the 19 stages ran exactly to schedule, which is a result unheard of in the ARC, except when we did it last year (19 out of 20)

AWARDS FOR OFFICIALS

This year there was a lot of variety in what was offered.

We ran another "beanie" competition, where the most interesting photograph of an official wearing an event beanie earned the official concerned a Subaru team Jacket - this year won by Scott Hochwald, up above the snow line on one of the world's best known mountains.

We also asked each stage commander to nominate the best official on their stage or department, and selected one overall winner as Official of the Year 2006 from the nominations.

The Official of the Year for 2006 is DICK MANNING, who has won an authentic Toyota Racing Development Rally Jacket and a framed poster, signed by the 3 crews on the podium. Congratulations Dick, very well done, and I know you put in a huge effort, over many weeks, and in a lot of areas.

Each of the nominees will also receive a framed signed poster in recognition of their nomination as listed below:-

Best Stage Official Award
Each Stage Commander nominates their best official - 11 awards to be won

PRE EVENT STAGES - Dick Manning
FORTIES - Martin Humphries

Best Stage/Department Award
Awarded to the Stage Commander of the stage or stages adjudged as best by a range of observers

The winner was CROMER - Steve Fisher
Runner up was CHARLESTON - David Milne

Each of those stages had unique challenges, well met, and so great work, Steve and David

It would be true to say that just about every stage and department was in contention for this award, and the decision to go with Steve and David was very close indeed, and made on quite marginal factors - so everyone should be proud of their efforts all round

Every member who worked on CROMER will receive a best stage woven patch, and recognition via a special gold sticker on their thank you certificate

Awarded to all officials who this year have completed 5 years service with us. Below, in alphabetical order, is a list of those who qualify. If your name is not listed and you feel you qualify, please give the Rally office a ring on 8212 2800.

DEBRIEFINGS

I have conducted a wide range of debriefings with selected people, and so will not be holding any large sessions.

If you have anything at all you would like us to take into account for next year, drop me a note via email ivar@toyotarallysa.com.au, or just call me on 0418 834 311 or 8212 2800.

Please keep your feedback factual and objective.

Well, that's it for now

Thanks again for your participation, and I hope everyone has a great Xmas and holiday season coming up, and I look forward to working with you all again next year

Cheers Ivar
