RALLY SOUTH AUSTRALIA CONFIRMED

24 January 2005

Rally South Australia has been confirmed as round five of the Globalstar Rally Championship and will be held from August 5-7.

The event is promoted and staged by the South Australian Motor Sport Board (SAMSB) that also promotes the Clipsal 500 Adelaide V8 Supercar event.

Chief Executive Andrew Daniels said today that planning for the 2005 rally 'was already well advanced under the direction of Clerk of Course Ivar Stanelis'.

The event will again be conducted in the Barossa Valley and Mount Crawford Forest areas.

'We will be coming off a high for the 2005 event following last year's massive attendance of 29,700 - a record for an Australian Rally Championship round', Mr. Daniels said.

Mr. Daniels said that a decision by Coopers Brewery not to continue as naming rights sponsor of the event 'while disappointing had not impacted on the running of the 2005 event'.

'Coopers has been a wonderful sponsor since we re-introduced a round of the Australian Rally Championship in South Australia in 2001 after a six-year absence and we thank them for their involvement', Mr. Daniels said.

Last year's Rally South Australia was won by Chris Atkinson whose outstanding performances will see him driving for the factory Subaru team in the 2005 World Rally Championship
