| This year's Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA (30 July -1 August 2004) was won by new Australian rally sensations Chris and Ben Atkinson (Subaru) from Juha Kangas and Julia Rabbett (Mitsubishi) and Ed Ordynski and Iain Stewart (Mitsubishi). Set in the Barossa Valley and Mount Crawford/Mount Pleasant regions of South Australia, the 2004 Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA attracted 6,000 spectators to the promotional start in the main street of Tanunda with a further 23,700 fans watching the action in the main spectator area in Mount Crawford Forest. The event is promoted and staged by the South Australian Motor Sport Board (SAMSB), that also promotes the Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar event that has won five AVESCO awards as the nation's best national motor sport event, three Yellow Pages Tourism awards as South Australia's best major event or festival, and has been inducted into the SA Tourism Hall of Fame as well as being named Australia's best major festival or event at the 2004 Australian Tourism Awards. SAMSB Chief Executive Andrew Daniels today paid tribute to the event's Clerk of Course Ivar Stanelis, CAMS and ARC volunteers and the management group and staff of the Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA. "We aim to present the exciting sport of rally in the best possible way and this year the introduction of a giant Mistral Vision Super Screen at the promotional start at Tanunda and at the main spectator point in Mount Crawford Forest really succeeded in bringing all the action to the fans", Mr. Daniels said. The 2004 Coopers Pale Ale Rally also benefited from pre-event promotions in Rundle Mall in Adelaide, an extensive marketing program utilising television, print and radio advertising, and editorial and promotional activity. Corporate facilities, event merchandise, bonfires for spectators and extensive catering, plus exciting rally roads also contributed to making the 2004 Coopers Pale Ale rally SA a winner for competitors and spectators alike. |
