| Determined Toyota driver Simon Evans says nothing will stop he and co-driver wife Sue from racing at the next round of the Globalstar Australian Rally Championship in South Australia in just over three weeks (July 30-August 1). |

| Simon Evans, who was injured with a broken femur after a big accident at the last round of the championship in Tasmania on June 27, was initially considered in doubt to return to the championship that he and Sue were leading before the accident.

| But Evans is a determined man and after a week recuperating in a Hobart hospital, the hard-charging fan favourite has set his sights on the Coopers Pale Ale Rally in South Australia at the end of July and wife co-driver Sue Evans, says "I'll be surprised if we're not there."

| Sue says "while everyone humoured Simon in the first few days when he said he'll be at the next round, the reality is that its very likely. "He's already told everyone that he'll be competing and the doctors have said that if he's feeling OK and everything's doing what it should, that he can rally. The plan is that we'll be there and we'll be competing." Evans was always determined to return to his number 10 Toyota in South Australia and the day after the accident was practicing using his accelerator foot while recovering in hospital. A return to the championship is vital for the Evans' championship chances. They are now second in the championship behind current title holder Cody Crocker by a meager five points - equivalent to about 7th place in a heat. Today, Simon was transported by air ambulance back to his home in Melbourne and has said that he'll be doing everything right to ensure he can be fit and ready for the competition in South Australia. Toyota Australia has arranged some rehabilitation professionals to assist with his recovery. In Canberra, the Neal Bates motorsport outfit is working overtime to have cars ready in time for the Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA. Evans car will need to be rebuilt after the accident and at this stage, Bates' team will be working around the clock to have at least two of the three cars ready for the event. Bates says that if Evans can return for the South Australian round, that he'll be pleased. "I think that if Simon comes backs for South Australia it will be the best thing that can happen. I'll be over the moon, not only for him but also for Toyota because he and Sue are a good possibility of winning the championship. "It's likely we'll only have the two cars in South Australia but its another week before we'll know. The cars are all identical, so if Simon ends up driving Ben's (Ben Barker's) car it will be just like driving his own," Bates said. Bates says that even though he would like to try and prepare all three Toyotas for the SA round so that he, Evans and Barker can all compete, that it's still undecided. Bates says getting two cars spot on from a championship point of view is the most important task for the team. The Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA is round four of the Globalstar ARC. The event is based in the Barossa Valley and kicks off on Friday July 30 at an evening ceremonial start in Tanunda. It is expected again to be a chilly and thrilling event continuing the close and exciting competition the series has seen this year. |
