WhereiS® points the way for rallying

5 February 2004

The Globalstar Australian Rally Championship (ARC) is proud to welcome Australia's favourite map and direction site whereis.com.au* on board as a major supporter of the 2004 championship.

WhereiS® adds its name to a stellar cast of sponsors including naming rights sponsor Globalstar, ELF Fuels, Network Ten and companies such as Toyota, Subaru and Mitsubishi who have all recognised the value of rallying as a competitive marketing platform for their products.

WhereiS® is all about helping customers find their way throughout Australia. The synergy of a product suite that enables easy navigation, and of a sport that is all about getting to the right location in the fastest possible time is not lost on the supporters of rallying.

Whereis® Navigation is Australia's first database for vehicle navigation and provides Australian drivers with one of the most advanced navigable road databases in the world providing explicit direction from A to B, no matter where you are in Australia.

WhereiS® recognises the opportunities of being involved in the thrilling national series due to the many synergies between the company and the Globalstar Australian Rally Championship and will be using the series to grow the awareness of the WhereiS® product suite.

WhereiS® General Manager Location Services, Chris Smith says the company is looking forward to a bright future with the championship. "The sponsorship agreement is an excellent example of WhereiS®' innovation and dedication to expanding partnerships which enable development of technologies in line with changing needs of consumers in the motoring industry.

"When the sponsorship opportunity was made available the compatibility with Whereis® products and solutions were evident. We have a number of unique application solutions using Whereis® product capabilities", said Mr Smith.

"This is a really exciting opportunity to showcase some of our technology and get a further understanding of applications and solutions missing in the industry.”

Australian Rally Commission (ARCom) Chairman Garry Connelly knows the benefits of being involved in the Globalstar Australian Rally Championship and welcomes WhereiS to the dynamic series. Connelly acknowledges that the dynamic and exciting nature of the WhereiS brand is a perfect fit with the fast-moving sport of rallying.

“Having a forward thinking, technologically based product suite like WhereiS on board is a huge benefit to the championship. It is obvious there are terrific synergies between the Globalstar ARC and WhereiS, not the least of which is about finding the best way to get from A to B in the shortest possible time.

“The products available under the WhereiS® brand are progressive and innovative and the dynamic national series is an exciting marketing platform for this company. We’re very pleased to have WhereiS® on board and look forward to an exciting future with them in our sport,” Connelly explained.

The 2004 Globalstar Australian Rally Championship kicks off in just over seven weeks on March 27-28 at the Respect Yourself Forest Rally near Busselton, Western Australia.
