Highly experienced rally official Ivar Stanelis has been appointed Clerk of Course for the 2004 Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA.

The Chief Executive of the South Australian Motor Sport Board (SAMSB) Andrew Daniels announced the appointment today. "We are particularly fortunate that Ivar has agreed to run the event on behalf of the SAMSB and I am sure that under his direction the reputation of the Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA will continue to grow," Mr. Daniels said.

Stanelis, who has been Deputy Clerk of Course since the Australian Rally Championship returned to South Australia three years ago, takes over from Jeremy Browne who has decided to step down to concentrate on his business interests and forays into classic rally events behind the wheel of his ex-works Lancia.

The appointment has been well received with ARCOM Chairman Garry Connelly commenting that Ivar Stanelis is the consummate rally official "dedicated and highly professional".

"The Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA has set new standards for the Australian Rally Championship both in its professional management and record spectator attendances. Jeremy Browne did a great job, and having Ivar take over will not only ensure continuity, but I am certain will lead to further innovation," Connelly added.

In addition to his role as Deputy Clerk of Course with recent Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA events, Stanelis has acted as Browne's Deputy at five Classic Adelaide events, and his ARC experience dates back to the 1970s as Road Director for a number of events together with a similar role in the 1979 Repco Round Australia Trial.

"Taking over the Coopers Pale Ale Rally SA is a great opportunity for me, and it is appropriate that I pay tribute to the tireless work put in by the organising team over the years, and especially the dedication of Jeremy Browne. Its going to be a hard act to follow but with the assistance of the terrific group of SA rally officials I am determined to raise the bar yet again," Stanelis said.
