The excitement is building!

The excitement is building!

2010 will see the running of theScouts Rally SA, on June 25th, 26th and 27th. It will be the 10th consecutive time that Rally SA has been run in the modern era. We plan to do something special in our 10th year, so watch this space...........

The rally is Round 5 of the prestigious AUSTRALIAN RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP. It is also round 3 of the South Australian Rally championship. Additionally, it will include The “State of Origin” Challenge Cup (TBC) (where crews compete against each other based on their home state) and a category for All Comers (which will generate some interesting vehicles). There will also be a number of Classic entries, running in their own category, many promoted by ACRA, the Australian Classic Rally Association

In 2006, the event won the CAMS Rally of the Year award. In 2007, it won the Best Community Event award from the Australia Day Council. In 2008 and 2009, it was widely regarded as being among the championship’s  best rounds

The event was attended by some 23,000 spectators, with 7600 at the Angaston Super Special over two nights, 2500 in the forest, and the rest at spectator points and private properties around the course, and some 2000 at the Service Park. 2010 should be no less

It is a well run, professionally managed event that has the support of some 800 volunteer officials, and is run on mainly shire roads in the Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills, and Mount Barker regions. It is supported by State and local governments, and the SA POLICE. Permits are issued by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS).

The promoter is RallyOne P/L, and the Director/Clerk of Course is Ivar Stanelis, who is also the Clerk of Course of the world famous Classic Adelaide Rally

The 2009 event, like the others before it, was filmed for a one hour special, shown on Fox Sports, and on OneHD free to air. In 2010, the coverage will extend to Ch 10 and OneHD

Based on previous years, around 60 entries are expected from all round Australia

The naming rights sponsor for the first 4 years was Coopers Brewery, under the Coopers Pale Ale banner, with the next three years taken up by the Toyota Motor Corporation. The SA Motor Sports Board (the organisers of the CLIPSAL 500) was the event promoters for the first 6 years, and a major sponsor in 2007/2008/2009. They have indicated that they will maintain their support in 2010.

The naming rights sponsor in 2008 and 2009, SPRINT AUTO PARTS, will not continue, focussing on the 36ers instead and SCOUTS SA has stepped up to fill the void. We thank Sprint Auto Parts, and wish them well - and welcome the involvement of SCOUTS SA

2010 SCOUTS Rally of South Australia

KEY POINTS

  • The 2009 event ran very well indeed, and to a high standard
  • There were 60 entries, average for the season
  • The ARC 1 hour programme showed South Australia off in a wonderful light, with a strong focus on the Barossa Valley. Best programme yet in my opinion
  • Both Adelaide Hills Council, Barossa Council and Mt Barker council reported that accommodation in the areas was sold out, and also reported zero resident problems
  • The CAMS Steward’s report was excellent, with no issues identified.
  • The major innovation for 2007/8/9 was the running of 4 super special stages on bitumen at the Angaston Recreation Park on the Friday and Saturday night. This was wholly underwritten by the Barossa Council, and sponsored by Coates, and well attended, with a total of 7600 paying locals (including about 1000 corporates) in 2009. We plan a lot of changes there, for more spectacle, but less down time
  • The major innovation for 2009 was the running of the first PEDDERS SHOOTOUT. This will run again in 201O, with many improvements to the format and management. It will again count towards event points, and have significant prizemoney
  • The council has already indicated the same support is available at ANGASTON for 2010, with a host of improvements proposed. Consideration is being given to conducting the super specials on Saturday and Sunday nights
  • The concept of distributed  spectator areas will be continued, and the Forest itself will be just one area out of 7 that spectators will be able to choose from - with the corporate focus shifting to Adelaide, Angaston, the service park and a major spectator point at Mt Crawford - reworked from 2009
  • The Corporate lunch facility will be located at Mt Crawford and those that wish to(and/or buy tickets) will be taken to nearby spectator spots via mini bus with guides, or they can self drive. This worked really well in 2009
  • The event has the support/commitment of all the key sporting personnel and volunteers that were involved in the preparation and operation of the 2009 SPRINT AUTO PARTS Rally SA
  • Real time vision, from in car and external, was streamed to the internet by PURE MOTORSPORT, as an additional media element for 2009, which will be continued and improved in 2010 - with PURE MOTORSPORT now a sponsor of the SCOUTS RALLY SA
